*On long lengths (especially 20/22ft long) expect wider bottoms and narrower tops – for instance on the average hops pole that is 22 ft long, diameter at the bottom is 10-11″ with a 5″ diameter top. Every tree is different but we search and locate the best consistency in diameter as possible.

What You Can Do With Cedar Posts

With natural eastern red cedar posts you can build Garden Fences, Large Animal Fences, Raised Flower Beds, Pole Buildings, Benches, Trellises, Gazebos, Wedding Chuppahs, Pergolas, Gates, Arbors, and Paths! Check out these images from Poet’s Walk to see what you can do: Building with Cedar. Check out how you can cut slices of a cedar post and use them as stepping stones: Cedar Slices Stepping Stones. Also there are builders that have taken building with cedar to an art form! Check out Romancing the Woods – a local high-end builder that uses all eastern red cedar. Also check out Nurture Nature Designs, for an affordable designer from Woodstock that works with you to create a beautiful structure out of cedar. You can also easily make useful garden structures such climbing trellises for vegetables and flowers just by putting two forks in the ground with a post across the top. Staking tomato plants instead of using cages is a good way to alleviate disease and increase production.

Why Use Natural Cedar Instead of Manufactured Products?

Pressure Treat posts has arsenic & copper, metal posts has paint — don’t put it in your soil, especially in your vegetable garden! Cedar lasts just as long and has been used by farmers for generations long before pressure treat was introduced! Cedar posts are all-natural rot and pest resistant without harmful chemicals.

What We Have Available

Various diameters (from 1″ to 12″ diameter for milling) and lengths up to 24′ (6′, 8′, 10′, and 12′ lengths to select from) of Eastern Red Cedar (the kind that cedar chests are made from). We also cut long lengths at 22 and 24 foot for hops poles or building.

Who We Are

We are local 3rd and 4th generation farmers that grows grass-fed beef and hay. We are not a reseller of cedar – we cut trees on our property that need to be removed to make pasture for our cows. All branch nubs are removed. You will be picking up the posts at the cedar grove.

Why Shouldn’t You Buy Elsewhere?

There are other sellers but the difference is that we have a large quantity that you can select from including small pieces to large lengths, twists, turns and forks. If we don’t have it already cut, we can cut down longer lengths, often while you wait. Our cedar is being used on high-end estates because of it’s ability to blend with nature instead of trying to overcome it. We have sold our cedar to contractors doing jobs for movie stars and personal residences of high-end real estate developers. These contractors and other contractors we sell to tell us that we have the best selection, service, and reasonable price they have experienced.

Why We Are Cutting This Beautiful Grove

This property is a former dairy farm that was abandoned. At one time, there was only a few fence line trees that provided the seeds to let these cedar trees grow. We intend to use the same pasture that was used before the 1950s for our beef cows. The one major difference is that we are selectively cutting areas to grow grass and we are leaving substantial areas of the cedar trees. We are doing this because just like deer, cows love to hang out in cedar trees to get out of the wind or enjoy the shade in the summer.
